Every Receipt Says Something About You
A guest reads the receipt more carefully than you think — especially the total, the taxes and the charges. A clean receipt builds trust. A long one with three QR codes and sections nobody understands just wastes paper.
What Can Go on a Receipt
- •Business details — Name, address, GSTIN and contact
- •Bill details — Bill number, date, time, order type, cashier
- •Items and taxes — Items, quantities, prices, discounts, charges and GST
- •Verification QR or barcode — To look up the bill later
- •Order tracking QR or link — For takeaway and delivery guests
- •UPI QR — To pay the exact amount
- •Waiter name — Useful in dine-in restaurants
Deciding What to Keep
1. Keep What the Law and Your Accountant Need
Bill number, date, items, prices and taxes stay. Check your GST requirements before removing anything.2. Keep What Guests Use
If guests track their delivery orders, keep the tracking QR. If they pay at the table, keep the UPI QR.3. Remove What Nobody Uses
If you never look up bills by barcode, turn it off. Each QR or barcode adds length to every thermal receipt.4. Keep the Kitchen Ticket Separate
KOTs need different information — items, notes and table. Changing the receipt should not change the KOT.
A Quick Example: Shortening a Long Receipt
Take a café printing on 80mm thermal paper. Its receipt had a verification QR, a barcode, a tracking QR, a tracking link and a UPI QR — on every bill, including dine-in bills already paid in cash. Each receipt was around 30 cm long.
The owner looked at how guests actually used the receipt:
- •Dine-in guests paid at the counter and never scanned anything
- •Takeaway guests sometimes used the tracking link
- •Nobody had ever asked staff to look up a bill by barcode
Receipt Mistakes to Avoid
- •Removing required details — Bill number, date, GSTIN, items and taxes must stay. Saving paper is never worth a non-compliant bill.
- •Changing settings in the middle of service — Make changes before opening or after closing, and print a test bill first.
- •Forgetting the guest's view — Read a printed receipt as if you were the guest. Is the total easy to find? Are extra charges clearly labelled?
- •Small or faint printing — If the printer head is worn or the paper is low quality, QR codes won't scan. Test-scan every QR you keep.
- •Different settings at different branches without a reason — Guests of a chain expect the same receipt everywhere.
Receipt Review Checklist
Run this once a quarter:
- •1. Print a sample bill for dine-in, takeaway and delivery.
- •2. Check that business details, GSTIN and bill number are correct.
- •3. Scan every QR code on the receipt with a phone.
- •4. Ask two or three staff which sections guests ever mention or use.
- •5. Turn off anything nobody uses, and print a new test bill.
- •6. Check that the KOT still shows everything the kitchen needs.
Key Takeaways
- •Keep everything the law and your accountant need: business details, GSTIN, bill number, date, items, charges and taxes.
- •Keep only the QR codes and sections guests actually use, such as tracking for takeaway or UPI for payment.
- •Every extra QR or barcode makes every thermal receipt longer and uses more paper.
- •Test-print and test-scan after every change, and keep the KOT settings separate from the receipt.
How RasoeeCloud Helps
RasoeeCloud's Receipt Print Settings let admins turn individual sections on or off — verification QR, barcode, tracking QR and link, UPI QR, receipt title, cashier, order type, date, time and waiter name. The same settings apply to browser printing and thermal printers, and the KOT is not affected.
